1. Vice President of India:
   Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar today took over as the fourteenth Vice President of India and Chairman of Rajya Sabha. A renowned lawyer and former West Bengal Governor, Shri Dhankhar, was administered the oath of office by the President, Smt. Droupadi Murmu at a swearing-in ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhavan today.

Following is the brief profile of Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar –

• Educational and Professional Background
  Shri Dhankhar did his initial schooling from the Government Primary School at Kithana village. Thereafter, he studied at the Government Middle School, Ghardhana and the Sainik School, Chittorgarh. For his college education, Shri Dhankhar joined Maharaja’s College, Jaipur and graduated in B.Sc. (Honors) Physics. After that, he pursued a degree in Law from the University of Rajasthan.

Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar began his professional career as a lawyer, and despite being first generational professional, he rose to be among the top legal experts in the country. In 1990, he was designated as Senior Advocate by the High Court of Judicature for Rajasthan. Ever since, Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar has been practicing primarily in the Supreme Court and his focus areas of litigation have been in the field of Steel, Coal, Mining and International Commercial Arbitration, amongst others. He has appeared in various High Courts in the country and was the senior-most designated Senior Advocate of the State till assuming the Office of the Governor of West Bengal on 30 July, 2019. During his legal career, Shri Dhankhar was the youngest person to be elected as the President of the Rajasthan High Court Bar Association, Jaipur in 1987. A year later, he also became a Member of the Rajasthan Bar Council in 1988.

• Parliamentary and Public Life
  Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar was elected to the Parliament of India in 1989 from Jhunjhunu Parliamentary Constituency. Subsequently, he also served as a Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs in 1990. In 1993, he was elected to the Rajasthan assembly from the Kishangarh constituency in Ajmer district. As a legislator, Shri Dhankhar served as the member of important Committees in the Lok Sabha and the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly. As Union Minister, he was also a member of a delegation as Deputy Leader of a Parliamentary Group to the European Parliament.

In July 2019, Shri Dhankhar was appointed as the Governor of West Bengal.

भारताचे उपराष्ट्रपती:
जगदीप धनखड यांनी आज चौदावे उपराष्ट्रपती म्हणून तसेच राज्यसभेच्या सभापतीपदाचा पदभार स्वीकारला. प्रख्यात वकील आणि पश्चिम बंगालचे माजी राज्यपाल धनखड यांना राष्ट्रपती द्रौपदी मुर्मू यांनी आज राष्ट्रपती भवनात झालेल्या शपथविधी समारंभात पदाची शपथ दिली.

जगदीप धनखड यांचा संक्षिप्त परिचय खालीलप्रमाणे आहे –
शैक्षणिक आणि व्यावसायिक पार्श्वभूमी:

• धनाखड यांचे प्राथमिक शालेय शिक्षण किठाणा गावातील शासकीय प्राथमिक शाळेत झाले. त्यानंतर त्यांनी घरधना इथल्या शासकीय माध्यमिक विद्यालय, आणि चित्तौडगडच्या सैनिकी शाळेत शिक्षण घेतले. महाविद्यालयीन शिक्षणासाठी, धनखड जयपूरच्या महाराजा महाविद्यालयात दाखल झाले आणि त्यांनी भौतिकशास्त्रात बी.एस्सी. (ऑनर्स) ची पदवी घेतली. त्यानंतर त्यांनी राजस्थान विद्यापीठातून कायद्याची पदवी घेतली.
• जगदीप धनखड यांनी व्यावसायिक कारकिर्दीची सुरुवात वकील म्हणून केली. पहिल्या पिढीतील व्यावसायिक वकील असूनही, ते देशातील सर्वोच्च कायदेतज्ज्ञांमध्ये गणले गेले. 1990 मध्ये, त्यांना राजस्थानच्या उच्च न्यायालयाकडून वरिष्ठ वकील म्हणून नियुक्त केले गेले. जगदीप धनखड हे प्रामुख्याने सर्वोच्च न्यायालयात कार्यरत होते . पोलाद, कोळसा, खाणकाम आणि आंतरराष्ट्रीय व्यावसायिक लवाद या क्षेत्रातील खटले हे त्यांचे विशेषत्वाने कार्यक्षेत्र राहिले आहे. देशातील विविध उच्च न्यायालयातही त्यांनी खटले चालवले आहेत. 30 जुलै 2019 रोजी पश्चिम बंगालच्या राज्यपालपदाचा कार्यभार स्वीकारेपर्यंत ते सर्वाधिक ज्येष्ठ पदसिद्ध वकील होते. कायदेतज्ज्ञ म्हणून आपल्या कारकिर्दीत धनखड हे 1987 मध्ये राजस्थान हायकोर्ट बार असोसिएशन, जयपूरचे अध्यक्ष म्हणून निवडून आलेले सर्वात सर्वात तरुण व्यक्ती होते. एका वर्षानंतर, 1988 मध्ये ते राजस्थान बार कौन्सिलचे सदस्यही बनले.

राजकीय आणि सार्वजनिक जीवन:

• जगदीप धनखड हे झुंझुनू लोकसभा मतदारसंघातून 1989 मध्ये भारतीय संसदेत निवडून आले होते. त्यानंतर, त्यांनी 1990 मध्ये संसदीय कामकाज राज्यमंत्री म्हणूनही त्यांनी काम केले. 1993 मध्ये, ते अजमेर जिल्ह्यातील किशनगड मतदारसंघातून राजस्थान विधानसभेवर निवडून आले. कायदेमंडळाचा सदस्य म्हणून, धनखड यांनी लोकसभा आणि राजस्थान विधानसभेतील महत्त्वाच्या समित्यांचे सदस्य म्हणून काम केले. केंद्रीय मंत्री या नात्याने ते युरोपियन संसदेतील संसदीय गटाचे उपनेते म्हणून शिष्टमंडळाचे सदस्य होते.

जुलै 2019 मध्ये, धनखड यांची पश्चिम बंगालचे राज्यपाल म्हणून नियुक्ती करण्यात आली.
