Hi Friends,
Tensed? No, don’t get tensed today 🙂
Be positive, think positive. Remember, a cool mind can give you 100% success, so never lose your patience. If you get panicky then you will lose precious time. Relax.
Today, make the following things ready for the exam on 18th May 2013:
- Black Ball Pen – 02
- Wrist Watch (make sure it is working perfectly). It must have second hand that shows seconds. Sekand kaata asayla hava.
- Hall Ticket
- Photo ID
- Fee Payment slip, and 1 Photo (if you have not received Hall Ticket)
- Water Bottle (Apane ghar ka pani hamesha swasth rehata hai, sharmane wali koi bat nahi).
- A good pair of socks (cleaned properly. No need to buy new pair)
- A very good set of clothes. (If you wear decent clothes, your confidence will be on the higher side)
- If you wear spectacles (eyeglasses), make sure they are in perfect condition.
- Well polished shoes or good pair of Chappals.
- Writing Pad (for keeping on the pad in case the table top is uneven or rough).
- No medicine of any type. Kontyach prakarch medicine khaavu naka..
On 18th May 2013: (Exam Day)
- Make sure that you got everything with you from the above list.
- Star early from your home to avoid traffic jam etc. Gharun lavkar nigha.
- After reaching the exam center, check your exam Hall and find out where is your Seat Number.
- Check for Toilet and go get yourself freshen up just before the exam. Remember, you will not be allowed to come out of exam hall.
- In the exam hall, check your chair, if it is broken, get it replaced; otherwise you may not be able to concentrate on your paper.
- Remove your wrist watch on the table so that you can have a look at it while answering the questions.
- Check your Answer Sheet and read all instructions. If you are not able to understand anything, ask your examiner. Fill-up required information.
- Quickly read the entire question paper when you are asked to open it. Check for printing mistakes, if any. This MUST be done in 5 minutes.
- Start answering the question paper.
- Do not get panicked if you find some questions difficult. As you already know that you are not gifted to understand each and everything. This is same with every one so do not get angry, either. Leave the most difficult questions and move on.
For GS Paper I:
- Do not spend more than 40 seconds on one question at a time. The breakup of the time for entire duration is as follows:
- 100 questions – 120 minutes
- 5 min – initial reading (11 AM to 11:05 AM)
- 100 min for 100 questions = 6000 seconds for 100 questions i.e. 60 seconds (1 minute) but utilize 45 secs for answering each question in the first round. You can make 2nd round using 15 secs for unanswered question. Leave very difficult question and move to next. (11:05 AM to 12:45 PM)
- 15 min – revision round – answer difficult questions (12:45 PM to 1 PM)
- 100 questions – 120 minutes
- Answer easy question first so that you gain confidence.
- If you are doubtful about correct answer then try to eliminate 2 wrong options and then arrive at 100% correct answer between remaining 2 options. Both may seem to be right answers but you need to choose the BEST suitable answer.
- Keep your eye on the wrist watch so that you monitor the seconds.
- If you cannot answer a question in 45 seconds, leave it for next round. You can answer it in the last 15 minutes
- After you have completed entire question paper within the 100 minutes, make another round of the remaining questions and try to answer them. Remember that you must answer all questions within this time i.e. (11:05 AM to 12:45 PM).
- If you find that you cannot answer them, just leave them unanswered. Remember that wrong answers can draw penalty. For 1 wrong answer, 0.33% mark will be deducted; so be careful.
- When you have used up the 100 minutes, i. e. at 12:45 pm, start revising your entire question paper from question number 1 till the last question. Check for the unanswered questions and try to answer them if you know the most correct answer. Do not answer it if you are unable to arrive at the right answer. This is to avoid the negative marking.
- Stop writing exactly when the examiner warns you.
For GS Paper II (CSAT):
- Do not spend more than 40 seconds on one question at a time. The breakup of the time for entire duration is as follows:
- 80 questions – 120 minutes
- 5 min – initial reading (3:00 PM to 03:05 PM)
- 100 min for 80 questions = 6000 seconds for 80 questions i.e. 1 minute 15 seconds per question but utilize 50 secs for answering each question in the first round. You can make 2nd round using 25 secs for unanswered questions. Leave very difficult question and move to next. (3:05 PM to 04:45 PM)
- 15 min – revision round – answer difficult questions (04:45 PM to 5 PM)
- 80 questions – 120 minutes
(03:05 AM to 04:45 PM).
- If you find that you cannot answer them, just leave them unanswered. Remember that wrong answers can draw penalty. For 1 wrong answer, 0.33% mark will be deducted; so be careful.
- When you have used up the 100 minutes, i. e. at 04:45 pm, start revising your entire question paper from question number 1 till the last question. Check for the unanswered questions and try to answer them if you know the most correct answer. Do not answer it if you are unable to arrive at the right answer. This is to avoid the negative marking.
Stop writing exactly when the examiner warns you.
During exam, if you feel tensed or sleepy then do this:
- Stretch your legs and hands downwards and release them after 2 seconds. Do this 2 times.
- Take deep breaths (inhale and then release it out after 2 seconds). Do this multiple times.
- Think positively and do not get stressed by any means. Try to concentrate on the question rather than worrying about it.
Good luck to all of you !
Soon after your exam, please send me Xerox copies of each paper and you answer sheets immediately by courier.

Also How do I start study.
Please suggest and also request to provide your guidance time to time.
Thanking you,
Sachin Bankar,Pune
@Sachin, there are 4 different sets (A,B,C,D) of same question paper. In the exam hall, 1st candidate will get A, 2nd will get B, 3rd will get C and 4th will get D, 5th will get again A, and like that. As OBC, you have chances till the max age limit of 38 yrs. You are very very late for Prelims 2014. But if you can devote full time for 45 days then only you can prepare. You will have to refer maximum books (around 30-35) and read them thoroughly. Attempt lots of Mock Tests (www.anilmd.com). For personal guidance, you need to join our NextGenPGP: 2014 : https://anilmd.wordpress.com/courses/nextgenpgp/ or 2015: https://anilmd.wordpress.com/courses/nextgenpgp-2015/

According to you, what will be cut-off of SS Pre-2013 for Open Catagory?
Also I have concern about answers for below questions in Set c :
Quest 16) Sugar Yeild from Sugarcane. It has answer 20% but MPSC gave it 10%.

MPSC gave answer: President of India
